Fr Tony Butler

Fr Tony Butler

Fr. Tony Butler S.M.A. has track record of missionary work in Africa and compassionate care for people in hurtful life situation. He now works in the African Mission parish, Blackrock, Cork. He has spoken at the Assembly of the Irish Church on the theme of “Becoming a church without fear”.

It is a sad fact of life that so many people go through life in a state of fear. The sources of fear may differ but the crippling effect on the quality of life is well known. Tony will try to answer the question, “How can we be a church without fear?” Fear can come from many directions, from hurt family, society, systems that bully people, from church or state, from bad church teaching, from our unredeemed human life. We hope Tony’s talk will connect us to long for the world where we hear, “Do not be afraid” but also where we can be a church where respect, truth, transparency and gospel values will operate at every level  and drive us to “lift the burdens that oppress”.
