At home with your Bible Autumn 2014
Luke is the only evangelist who is not a Jew. He went to great pains to collect information for his Gospel and Acts of the Apostles. Luke is writing not only for the Jewish world but for a church spreading to the ends of the world. He sees Jesus as the abiding truth for all people, Jews and Gentiles. Luke’s gospel is the first defence of the faith aimed at the governing class. Luke depicts Jesus as a figure of nobility and grace, a man of breathless kindness and forgiveness, with a special concern for the poor. Our ongoing study of Luke coincides with Year 3 of the liturgy and we hope our study will enhance our liturgy each Sunday as we read Luke and note his challenge us to be faithful to our Christian call to follow Christ.
