One of the great blessings of our time is the recovery of the scriptures in the life and ministry of the church. More and more groups are finding they have a real treasure in the Word of God as they try to live their faith true to God and to our world.
Bible study and reflection will be focussed for many by two events in the church in the near future. We are celebrating now “The Year of Paul”, a special time to be touched by the writings and passion of Paul, the Apostle. His letters to early churches and the story of his missionary activity are a valuable gift to every age and especially so for our times as we look back to our Christian origins for new energy and inspiration.
The Apostle Paul The second event is the decision to make “The Word of God in the life and Mission of the Church” the theme of the Synod of Bishops in 2008. The Synod of Bishops has the responsibility to see that Vatican II is activated in the Church and that the church is connecting up with the joys and hopes, the sufferings and stresses of our world today so that it may propose the healing power of the Gospel for our needy world and do so in a convincing and hopeful way.
Last Synod of Bishops Croí Nua tries to be a Centre that makes the Word of God a central part of its mission. We believe this great gift should not be wrapped tight in books or commentaries but be an alive energy for the peace and growth of all God’s children. |
